Re-installing WSUS - There may be a network connection issue.

I had an issue after I updated windows 2008 to 2008 r2. So I decided to wipe the drive and reinstall with a clean copy of 2008 r2 x64. When trying to re-install WSUS on to the server, I came across an error when installing. The only note or message that the error mentioned was an issue with the network connection. I did some digging around and found that because of the previous Group policy settings pointing to the old server, it stopped the installation of the new WSUS. I connected to our DC and edited our policy on updates to clients. The setting that needs to be changed is: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Specify intranet Microsoft update service location This setting will need to set to "Not Configured" . After I've finished, I'll re-edit the policy back to its original address for this server. Another setting to maybe configure: If you are working with the 64bit version of

WDS Inject Drivers into Boot Image

I've had a crap load of problems with trying to push an image out to the HP1000 laptops using WDS. Because of the unsupported network drivers, I've had to inject the drivers into the boot image for win7 x64. And because I'm using windows 2008 server standard, the gui driver injection is not available... son of a bitch. So this is the method for injecting it using WAIK commands: Before starting all this, creating these folders first: c:\temp c:\temp\mount c:\temp\drivers Then copy the drivers needed into this new drivers folder. Try to keep the file structure of the drivers folder that you have extracted. Once you've completed that, open WDS and go to the boot images that are available. Disable the boot image that you want to copy first( I would use a vanilla boot image every-time) and then export the image to the C:\temp folder. I've labeled it "bootimg.wim". Now your ready to create your custom image: 1. Start Windows AIK'

WDS upload image but Network not working...

I've got a problem with uploading an image of a HP1000-1403AU laptop. Once the laptop boots from network to the capture session for WDS (F12), the network card ( Realtek PCIE FE controller drivers ) is not supported by the boot image, so the network card isn't loaded with the driver and theres no connection to the WDS server. I've found a few answers in among many posts on the Microsoft sites, but this was the solution that worked. Hi, for everybody that are having problems connecting to the WDS server in the Capture image window. I have found one solution. The problem is the LAN driver missing in the WindowsPE boot image. You can add the driver in the booting image or you can load it later. So if you know you can't connect to upload the image to WDS then download the LAN driver for your network card, put it on a floppy or USB.  Start the image capture process.  Before you connect to WDS server start a command window with Shift+F10. Expanding VM Windows Partition in windows 2003

I've been working on a VM Player, running game and deployment servers off them, when I came across a problem of running out of space on the windows partition. In window 2008 and above, it can easily be done, but not so much in windows 2003. I searched the net and finally found details about how to do it with a utility created by DELL. Heres the details below: Original Details on  http://johan-grotherus.blogspot.co.nz/2011/10/use-dell-extpart-utility-to-expand-your.html Use the Dell ExtPart utility to expand your Window partitions Are you looking for an easy way to extend your Window partitions in your VMware virtual machine? Then, take a look at the Dell ExtPart utility. This simple utility lets you grow basic disks in Windows operating system. I myself have only used it to extend the system disk C:\ on a Windows 2003 server, and it worked without a hitch. Step 1. Power down your virtual machine so you can grow your HDD in "edit settings"

My Passport 0740 - Western Digital

I had a situation. Plugged in my WD Passport 0704 and nothing came up or showed up as a removable device in "My Computer". Also nothing showed up in Disk Management as well. But it was allowing me to safely eject the drive. I searched the net and found most of them mention the "disk management" solution". If none of the above works..... This worked for me: suggestion - unplug the drive before trying this... and uninstall all the light-grey devices that will display. I also remove light-grey devices under "WD Drive Management Devices" ------------------------------------------------------ jack4rall - Apr 25, 2012 02:27PM Hello,  Try this 1  Click on Start --> In search box, type cmd.
